ABN, insurance, licence checklist for onboarding new clients
Use this onboarding checklist to send the right core documents the first time.
When a new client asks for your paperwork, they are usually trying to answer a simple question: can we safely and confidently engage this business? Your document pack should make that answer easy.
A clean onboarding pack usually starts with ABN details, legal trading name, contact details and a short business summary. Then come your insurance certificates, trade licences or registrations, and any safety documents relevant to the work. If you work on construction sites, white card evidence and SWMS often sit close to the top of the list.
This does not mean every client needs every document. The point is to keep your core set current so you can tailor the pack quickly. Builders may care about prequalification and site safety. Councils may add vendor forms and declarations. Commercial clients may want insurance and capability information first.
